Anybody ever have panic attacks and manage to overcome them without medication?
If so, how? Or please share any info you think would be pertinent.
Please don’t tell me to take meds, chemically they just don’t work with my body/brain.

Wow! I heard about lamictal from you guys and I’m delighted it works! I take lamotrigine and that works unbelievably beautifully! I have been taking it since 2007.

Lamictal is supposedly alleged to be both a mood stabilizer *and* an antidepressant, but it works better for me as a mood stabilizer. Depakote is another one, Tegretol, Trileptal – and of course, the almighty lithium. There’s probably others I’m forgetting. I’ve tried them all and as far as I’m concerned the Lamictal has the fewest side effects (except for the possibility of the rash, but if you’re going to get it, it will be early in treatment.).
Hey all!
Before I get started, i just want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. Your prayers have been answered so much, I cannot even begin to express how much I sincerely appreciate it all! My anger is under control so much,, it is just so good. I know I keep saying that continuously right? LOL! Well, I am just so so so proud of myself for the way I am handling it now let me tell you. Okay, here is my question. I was chatting with a very dear friend of mine on the phone a few minutes ago, I will not mention his name, but he told me something and it made me wonder. He told me that for a little while, I don’t know how long, medication will stop working in your system. Is this true for some people? Now I have been taking my medication for nearly 2 years and I have not felt a change at all! They are all working extremely beautifully, but when I see my doctor on the 20th I will ask her about this. I really really
hope it won’t happen to me for the meds help so much and I wouldn’t want them to stop working. Well, you know what folks, if they do stop working my doctor will always prescribe something similar won’t she? I’m sure there are gazillions of different medications out there that help mood swings, not anti depressants, but mood stabilizers. I can’t take anti depressants, but I’m sure there are tonnes of mood stabilizers around.
Well! I have absolutely! nothing! to worry about though. I am so so so so happy! All together now! halalooya!
I will look forward to your r r r r r r r r responses! Oh I’m like Mel Tillis now aren’t I? LOL! hahahahaha!! ! Love you all!

Thanks janet. ido take things one day at a time, but soemtimes it seems forever!!! i am slowly recovering but very slowly. i just seee it as an educational experience because i would never have fully undertood this if i wasnt actually going through it. i see it as an positive experience.
It’s frustrating when other’s don’t understand, but I guess it’s like everything else, unless you have been there, you just don’t get it. I would continue going to the pool with people until one day you may feel like you can go on your own. I wouldn’t push it, just accept it for now, take one day at a time. Good luck, Janet
hi, i know i am not the only one with this problem but i still feel alone. i feel better today, less frustrated, my sister said we might go to the pool today but i am so tired of going along everybody elses timetable. she says i should just try to make it there but its not that simple. thanks for the welcome.

Nice to hear from you! It’s wonderful to have new members on groups like this! Listen, I also have the same exact problem as you. I am absolutely scared to go to our swimming pool alone, I never will go alone! I am so honoured to have someone with me at all times. I live with my parents and am totally blind. I live in Canada. I’d sure love corresponding with you!
hi everyone,
hi everyone, i am new to the group and today i am feeling angry with myself. i cant go to the swimming pool on my own because i get panic attacks and there is noone to come with me so i am missing out on some good exercise, relaxation, and sun (i am in australia and its summer here). I feel like a fool. the pool is 5 minutes walking distance from my home and so easy to just go, but yesterday when i was there with my sister, she was to leave for a half hour and i got panicky just thinking that i will be on my own, so i know i wont cope. I think to myself, just do it, its eassy there is no problem, but i get anxious. I have been like this for a bit over 2 years now , but my psychiatrist didnt pay much attention when i said i am agoraphobic. . He think s i just have lost some confidence in myself. so now i am just hoping this condition goes away in time by itself. I manage to go to the library on my own but thats just about it. i am so frustrated.

Oh! Absolutely Janet, I’m definitely not worrying about it now. I’m anyway reducing the lamotrigine to 3 a day. That’ll help!

It could be that you just have a stomach virus. There is a lot of that going around right now and sometimes it will clear up and come back some before it goes away completely. Try not to stress about it too much, I’m sure it will pass. Janet

Hi all!
Well, at last! My doctor called and guess what! The diarrhoea is not because of the new medication, praise the lord! It is because I increased the lamotrigine which is what I take for seizures and moods to 4 a day, so she reduced the dosage to 3 a day. Oh I’m thrilled! Thank the lord I don’t have to stop the propranolol. I am thrilled! I don’t know why the diarrhoea suddenly came this week because I increased the lamotrigine on the 19th of February. Well, she said it could take some time. I am delighted! I am delighted

Ah, thank you Starbuck so much. I’m waiting for my doctor to call. Hope she’ll call later today or if not Monday for sure.

Yes, I read those too. Try to hang in there with your current drug, if you can. Perhaps your doctor can give you advice on it (antacids, or something).

Hello Starbuck,
I take lamotrigine for seizures and depression and it works just beautifully! I hope my doc will call me today. I read on wikipedia about atenolol and I’m a wee bit hesitant to talk to my doctor about it. I don’t think I want to try that one due to reading the side effects.

Generic means it’s not the brand name and is a lot cheaper; i.e. lamotrigine is generic for Lamictal.
And actually, I googled both atenolol and propanolol and the propanolol is actually the more effective drug, from the information on what the drug is used for. If you can deal with the diarrhea (there’s something out there called Immodium AD that fixes that) for a bit, it may pass (no pun intended). The anger is actually part of a condition called mania (at least that’s what *my* doctor tells me, but he doesn’t know everything) and he stuffs lamictal down my throat. I’d love something to slow my heart down besides Xanax.
Starbuck

I wonder, does atenolol work for anger? What does generic mean?
