Medication for panic attacks that DOES NOT cause weight gain?

medication for panic attacksKristy J asked:

Hi, I am currently taking celexa 20 mg for panic attacks. I have been on it for about 6 months, but prior to that, I was on effexor xr for 8 months. Ever since I have started taking antidepressants, I have gained 20 pounds and I really don’t eat that much or even any different for that matter. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that does not cause weight gain. This extra weight has just added to my anxiety and lowered my self esteem so I am afraid to go off it because my panic attacks were really bad. Any advice from anyone with similar experience? Thanks to all

Prozac works very well for panic attacks. it sort of dulls your senses though.

Propranolol-Panic Attacks Treatment

That is so brilliant! Propranolol is working just unbelievably for me let me tell you! It is calming me down like you wouldn’t believe! It’s great!
I have taken Inderal (propranolol) for 20 years. It may have in the beginning that was a long time ago but I have not had one problem with this medication at all.

Propranolol-Panic Attacks Treatment

March 26th, 2009 No comments

Hello everybody,
As I probably mentioned to some of you, on Monday, I began going to the bathroom a lot to do number 2. Sorry if that is a little too deep. Well, Tuesday I still had to do it, so I immediately took pepto bismol and it stopped. Wednesday and Thursday I was completely fine, I didn’t have to go at all. Well, today it came back again, so I told my mother and she immediately called the pharmacy. Sure enough folks, the propranolol I’m taking does indeed cause diarrhoea, but thank goodness, it isn’t loose. Oh gosh my dear friends I am now feeling frightened. *Maheen starts breaking down* I don’t want to stop taking this medication as it is helping me extremely well and my anger is under control so much. Well folks, even before I started this after I immediately came back from the hospital, I controled my anger and temper tantrems completely. The pharmacy just told my mother that it does take a while for my body to get adjusted to it, so obviously I will give it
time. You know though friends, me going to the bathroom so much is no big deal at all. I can handle it just fine, but I am worried for what if my uncontrolable anger comes back again if I have to stop taking it? My mother calmed me down and said there are other types of medication for anger, but I’m definitely! not taking resperidone again. That increased my anger so bad. I really, really really hope though if I have to stop it my doctor will give something similar to propranolol that doesn’t cause me to go to the bathroom. Are there other types of beta blockers out there? My life though as you know has totally changed and I am completely keeping my actions under control like you wouldn’t believe. I sincerely hope that you will all keep me in your thoughts and I truly hope I won’t have to stop taking propranolol. Has anyone else experienced the same problem for medication? I could really, really use a friend right now.
