Questions re Adderall-Panic Attacks Treatment
Panic Attacks Treatment
I’m a middle-aged (lol) mom of one teenager. i have battled with severe panic attacks due to social anxiety disorder ever since i was in elementary school – yet, for some odd reason, i never told anyone about my symptoms – deciding to fiercly hide my disorder from the entire world.
Ironically, i’m also a very outgoing person – which is probably why i was successful at hiding my condition so well..as NO ONE ever suspected a thing, including my own PARENTS – until i told them, at age *32*. they were completely shocked.

> and i only told them because despite having been seen by a psychiatrist and a counselor for over a year prior, my panic attacks had started to increase in frequency and severity – to the point where, having worked as a financial & risk management advisor at the same company for over 11 years, one day i just waited until everyone left, packed a box, and locked the office door – never to return. my father called my boss to let him know – and he was in disbelief. and my *co-workers* thought it was a PRANK – *that* is how outgoing i am…and therefore, left me several funny phone messages for over a week (such as: “hope you’re having fun eloping with that hot guy in hawaii!” – as i’d also had 5 weeks of unused vacation time saved up at the time).

> the next two years were complete hell – i had to see 3 doctors and go to court *twice* before finally being awarded social security disability benefits.
>
> for an entire year before i left my job, as well as ever since, i have tried just about every single medication there is for social anxiety disorder – you name it, i’ll bet i’ve tried it – that’s how many – yet, even the latest of SSRI’s, SNRI’s, anti-seizure meds, and benzodiazepines did absolutely nothing – i had a full-blown panic attack while attending my son’s conference at school – even though i’d taken *3mgs* of xanax within the hour (my doctor “assured” me it would “work”)…

> however, a few years ago, i read something about *Adderall* being effective – so, i brought the article in for my dr. to read, and he agreed to let me try it, and lo and behold, within 40 minutes of my *very first dose* of 10mgs of Adderall, my social anxiety disorder and related panic attacks were COMPLETELY gone -

> i went from not even being able to go grocery shopping by myself, to being able to do that and *anything* else – including performing before a group of 500 people within that same week – THAT is how effective Adderall is for me (if not on the adderall, i would have preferred being shot dead rather than go on stage – SERIOUSLY). i have since switched to Adderall XR, as it’s much longer lasting (but still not long enough).

> and now, for the HORRIBLE part (LOL): although Adderall “cures” my SAD (so long as i remember to take it as scheduled, that is), it *causes* me to have a different type of severe anxiety: i just feel “nervous” – but that nervous feeling is there whether i’m in public or at home – and it’s not over anything (i’m not thinking any negative thoughts) – it is completely due to the adderall..
>
> i also have a jittery feeling, like i’ve downed an entire pot of coffee (btw, i don’t even drink coffee – as just ONE cup will make me feel that way), and, last but not least, adderall causes me to become very agitated and irritable at times – i even get angry at MYSELF sometimes, lol – again, it’s all due to the adderall – as once it wears off, those symptoms completely disappear – and the SAD reappears – to the same severity it’s been at for years.
>
> btw, i’d switched from xanax to klonopin before i started taking adderall – and klonopin never did anything for my SAD, and it hasn’t helped with any of the side effects from the adderall – in fact, it makes them *worse*! – therefore, i’ve now tapered down to only taking klonopin at night – and for sleeping, it IS effective for me.

> well, that’s my story, lol. i’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has had any success with taking adderall or other stimulants for social anxiety, and if so, what dose and dosing schedule works best for you.
>
> also, if you suffer from anxious and jittery side effects from adderall, if you’ve tried any med in combination with it that has been helpful, such as Tenex or Clonidine, i’d be grateful to hear about it.
>
> lastly, if anyone has switched from Adderall xr to Vyvanse, i’d appreciate hearing your views as to which one works the best.
