i suffer with depression and anxiety and although i have been ok throughout this pregnancy, i was worried about it returning after the baby is born

talk to your midwife or gp, they should be able to put you in touch with health professionals who you can discuss the problem with and make plans /take action for your anxiety

try relaxation tapes and see if they help- i found them beneficial to me

dont try to ignore your anxiety, find out what your trigger is and try to resolve the problem, dont feel like a failure if you have to use medication, the gp/midwife will advise you on what is ok to take during pregnancy

My spouse suffers with these from time to time and it scares me too. I was just doing some research on this and it seems there may well be a cure.

Up until now all I was finding was coping techniques, and they seemed to be only dealing with the symptoms and not the actual cause.

I'll leave the link to the article below, hope it helps.

There are 2 programs out there that are famous for treating Panic Attacks and Anxiety successfully.
They are: Panic Away and The Linden Method.

You may wonder, "Which one is better?" Don't worry, you're not the only one with that question.

The Panic Away program is more appropriate for people who can cope with their Panic Attacks or Anxiety well.
Linden Method is more for those who aren't really good in coping their Panic Attacks or Anxiety well.

Check out the reference for the full comparison.

Oh Yes. I'm a former panic and anxiety sufferer myself. Panic Attacks stem from escalated anxiety which leads to hyperventilation. The hyperventilation or disturbance in breathing patterns leads to all the physical symptoms experienced during the attack...

The Symptoms:
- hyperventilation
- dizzyness
- uncontrollable fear
- a pounding heartbeat (feels like your chest will explode)
- numbness in the extremities
- a feeling like you're dying

The physical symptoms coupled with the irrational anxiety is what makes a panic attack so traumatic. Most sufferers truly believe that they're dying.

Here's an article that goes into further details on the psychology behind panic attacks. It also shows natural methods to calm down from a panic attack in about 5 minutes:

Hope that sheds some light.

I have the same problem - I was diagnosed with a general anxiety disorder several years ago and have been dealing with the anxiety without medication (I tried several types, just none had worked). I recently got pregnant and have found my anxiety attacks are more frequent. I continue to deal with them without medication - I don't want to take any risks at all with being pregnant.

People have suggested meditation and exercise, as well as drinking herbal teas and lots of water. I would try everything you can before going on some psychotrophic/bettablocker/neuroleptic medication.

I have been having the same problem although mine have eased up some now (i'm 16 weeks). I use some of the bach flower remedies. I also find that exercise helps me reduce my anxiety. I also find things that take my mind off of my anxiety like reading a book or taking a hot bath. Find whatever helps you to relax...
