All of the things you are feeling are things we will all feel at some time in our lives. You didn’t tell us if you are normally a “fearful” person who goes thru life afraid and anxious? SOme people are born shy or anxious. They can fight against it but it is their natural state.
Or were you surprised by the anxiety and fear? These are the attributes that saved our lives when we were “cavemen”. If you could be eaten by a lion at any time, the smartest people were constantly fearful and anxious. A lion stalks its prey and a human is weak. You had to be ready for anything at any time. Sleeping was the worst time. How can you relax completely when you know that lions and tigers can see in the dark and prefer to hunt then.
But , in the year 2008, your feelings are not saving your life….they are making you miserable.
Here are some questions… Do you have any warning of when the fear and anxiety will start? If so, concentrate on the warning signs. Do they have a trigger? Once you feel fearful is there anything you can do to make it better? Can you put on your running shoes and exercise? This is one of the only things that consistently works… but it is so hard to put the shoes on in the first place. Is the fear more likely to happen in the morning when you first wake? Or will it hit you in the evening? Is it more likely to happen when you haven’t eaten? Or after a meal.
THe fact that you wrote to Answers mean that you have an inner strength. You believe that you can overcome this. I think you can too.
Good luck.
