medication for panic attacks
Charli S asked:

My Best Friend suffers from panic attacks and always asks for me when she falls in to one. I think she does because i can deal with epilepsy sufferers but i dont know what else to help with other than sit with her and watch her breath into a bag and talk to her. Shes on medication but that only makes her sleep then wake up in absolute fear. What else can i do?

I heard somewhere that if you look a person straight in the eye, it will help calm them down.

try to calm her down. tell her to think about other things that are relaxing, this usually helps me…

Develop some little ritual with her that you use whenever the has an attack–it could be a poem she likes, a song that has meaning, just describing the surroundings, anything that seems to comfort her. Just having someone there who understands what is happening & isn’t overwhelmed by it is worth a whole lot!!She’s lucky to have a good friend like you..

its good for her that she has someone who she wants and helps her while having a panic.so long as you dont mind being their for her here goes.while she is having one remind her over and over again it is gonna pass.it will pass.she got through it last time.she will get through it again.after remind her yes it was scary but she is fine.its fear of fear that breeds this.has she tried focusing on other thoughts when she starts to have one. has she remembered that she comes out of them ok in the end.if the meds are not working and just make her tired then she should see bout changing them.does she no the cause or or they for no reason.remind her again it will pass and she will be fine.nobody goes mad from anxiety or dies and having you their is a great help.gud look i feel for you both.

Depending on your gender, evaluate your friends panic attacks, do they happen more when you have little time to give or when you havent been able to spend as much time with her as she would like…
Panic attacks can be brought on by ‘triggers’ now in order for you to help her, she is the one who needs to do the talking not you, If these are True panic attacks…then she herself is the only one to identify with the cause of the stress that is leading to the attack..At that time and only then when she is ready to identify her triggers then it is time for you to do the talking with her….
Through the duration of a panic attack you can go to sleep thinking about something, then you restlessly sleep with this and only this on your mind, when you awake and find its the same day with the same problems and nothing is being dealt with, A lot of stress can build up and cause a lot of problems,,,,
