Migraines and Panic Attacks? Birth control?

medication for panic attacks
Me asked:

I suffer from chonic migrains, sometimes 2-3 per pay. I have suffered these for about 3 years. Recently a friend of mine went on medication for anxiety/panic attacks and her migraines ceased. I have done alot of research on anxiety and panic attacks and I have most of the symptoms of panic attacks. Could this be what has been causing my migraines?

Also, a friend of mine at the hospital I work at claims that her Yasmin was causing hers. Is this possible? I have been on Yasmin, and now Yaz, for about 3+ years.

Professional help only please.

Becuase of all of the other side effects of the pill, I would not reccomend just going on the pill to prevent migraines.

Well, I’m not a professional and I don’t suffer from migraines but I am, by nature, an anxious person. After being on Yasmin for 4 months I became so anxious and fearful I didn’t want to get out of bed. I didn’t connect it at all to the Yasmin until an Internet search on irrational fear led me to this site:http://www.steadyhealth.com/YASMIN_BCP_side_effects_like_panic_attacks_and_depression_t72331.html

I immediately stopped taking the Yasmin and went back to my “normal” levels of anxiety.

Some ssri’s are used in treating migraine sufferers. I took an ssri and did not suffer one migraine the whole time. One year after stopping, I did start to experience migraines again, but to a lesser extent. Talk to your doctor and discuss the pros and cons. I would definitely research the Yasmin connection as well.
