Are there any over the counter medications for panic attacks that you would recommend?
John S asked:
I have been having really bad panic attacks lately and I don’t know if any of you have them but it feels as if I am going crazy and the panic attacks are horrible. I have visited my doctor and was prescribed xanax and I have took it but my prescription is now gone. Any help would be appreciated. This has been going on for about two weeks and when I think about how I have been feeling lately it makes me want to cry. What can I do to get rid of the panic attacks? Please help. It would be appreciated.

i take vitamin b tablets and smoke weed. not exactly over the counter, my buddy grows it. the vitamins are otc, jameison vit b50 complex.
I don’t know of any over the counter meds, but maybe try some calming herbal tea?
More important is to find out what is causing this. Till you find someone to talk to try Valerin root, a vitamin, sold in any chain store.
Beer or Tequila.
please dont ask those things here, you have no idea what kind of people will answer. go to see your doctor again and never take anything without his knowledge, it might be very dangerous to auto medicate yourself in this sense. we are not talking about a headache, we are talking about panic attack man, please.
I would get a new prescription from your doctor. Avoid caffeine for awhile. When you start to feel one coming on don’t focus on it, that makes it worse. Think about something else, something that makes you happy. Take some deep and full breaths. After some training and practice you will be able to turn them off when they start. lol.
In my opinion as having history of panic attacks, that you need to be placed on a prescription such as Effexor XR. Xanax is really only good for the panic attack you are having, but if you take a longer term prescription you can pretty much nip them in the bud before the panic attack happens. Also, exercise and healthy diet, no caffiene can greatly reduce your chances of Panic Attacks as well.
This best thing for you to do would be to see your doctor again. It this isn’t an option you should try avoiding stimulants(like caffeine) and getting plenty of sleep and exercise. It may also help to carry a bottle of lavender oil as some people find the scent soothing.
Medications for this have many side effects, if you can find successful results naturally like I did; go for it. Your diet is also a factor in this, if you drink power drinks and ingest a lot of caffeine, this is most likely one of the main causes for your symptoms.
Panic and anxiety can be treated naturally by taking L-Theonine, which is an amino-acid. B vitamins and fish oil high in DHA also help.
In the mean time try some deep breathing exercises and meditation. These things all helped me!
Best Wishes
Stay away from caffeine!! bevarage that’s how I avoid panic attack
go to a health store and get something called “Rescue Remedy’
It is a combination of flower essences and really is very very helpful for any kind of stress and distress
I also highly recommend you take a vitamin b complex tablet on a regular basis. When your body is stressed , be it as simple as trying to do too many things or even trying to cope with weather changes let alone some of the things that can go on, you use more of the vitamin b’s ( all of them ie complex) and need to replace them. They help the body function normally and the only side effect is to turn your urine bright shades of yellow.
Deep slow breathing also helps but difficult to remember to do when you are panicking
good luck
Try this just for the heck of it: Get plenty of rest; and next time you feel one coming on think:Happy, happy, yes, I am so happy! I love life and I am the bomb! Think this way throughout the attack: Whew! I am so nice looking and so smart. Fill your mind with as many positive thoughts as possible. It actually works for me. (remember life is beautiful and it will get so much better as you surround yourself in happiness and happy thoughts)
