Relationship Panic Attack medication?
MeBee asked:
What medication would you recommend for panic attacks, anxiety, and mild depression? My panic attacks ONLY happen when my boyfriend and I are fighting and I get an intense fear of him lying, not caring about me, just a feeling of wanting to die. It’s so weird because I get completely out of control and scream and cry and shake. The worst is the crying, it’s like my tears eventually run out… and think about killing myself…this is embarassing because I know that I only contemplate “dying” when Im in the middle of an attack…and the attacks only last 20 min to an hour at most. I know that ending the relationship would be a better cure then taking medication…but for now, it seems like no matter what happens, we wont break up. Its sad…because if you saw me or knew me other than my attacks, you would never ever guess I was one to feel this way….
So what medication would one recommend for situation specific attacks..?

Ask your doctor about Alprazolam. Alprazolam doesn’t have the harsh side effects of pills such as Xanax yet it is fast acting and works.
Ativan,(alorazipam) is made exactly for such problems.
Ask your Physician.
Best wishes.
No doctor will prescribe you anti-anxiety medication unless you also agree to make lifestyle changes.
Anti-anxiety medication is typically addictive and most are controlled substances. It is for those reasons that it is meant for short-term use, doctors are hesitant to prescribe it, and it’s expected you will be making lifestyle changes.
The relationship itself is not the problem – it’s your response to it and how you cope with relationships. When we become overly concerned with someone lying to us and not caring and develop of fear of being abandoned, it’s really about our insecurities and our self-esteem. Medication isn’t meant to make us more confident.
Breaking up or not breaking up is a choice. You need to do what’s in your own best interest. Maybe spend a little less time together while you get some counseling to help you learn to cope better. The counselor may or may not prescribe something. Understand though that addiction is a serious and more dangerous side effect than learning to cope and calm yourself.
And listen. There is no shame in this. None. At one time or another everyone has these feelings. I used to feel like that all the time. Don’t be embarrassed about being human.
